Stephen J. McShane, Chief Executive Officer

A native of Detroit, Michigan, Steve began his career in the Automotive Electronics Group of Motorola, Inc. as sales engineer and sales manager. In a ten-year career at Motorola, Steve was also responsible for Motorola’s National Service and Distribution Operations, serving the company’s automobile radio and electrical parts business.

Following a successful tenure at Motorola, Steve held the positions of Vice President of Operations at G&W Electric Company and President of Midtown Brake and Electric.

Steve founded Midtronics in 1984, originally as the exclusive parts distributor for Motorola’s radio and electrical parts business as Motorola began to exit that business. Steve later acquired the exclusive rights to the design and technology behind Motorola’s under-performing electronic battery tester business unit. Working with the original patent holder of the core technology, Keith Champlin, Ph.D. Steve transformed this technology into the core of Midtronics’ business, securing endorsement and acceptance from the engineering community along with commercial success. Through this core technology development, and hundreds of additional battery-related technological advances, Midtronics has established itself as the leader in the Battery Management field, securing relationships with the world’s largest vehicle manufacturers, service organizations and battery suppliers. The company also supplies products and services to the leading telecommunications, electric power and UPS providers on a global basis.

Steve has 10 US patents, is a member of the Board of Directors of Continental Midland Corporation. He sits on the Executive Council of Reading in Motion, a nonprofit organization that has developed an innovative reading program for at-risk children in the Chicago Public Schools.

Steve holds a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Detroit and an M.B.A. from the University of Michigan.
